Job Description:
THE POSITION
Washington County Sheriff's Office is seeking to fill Variable Hour
Jail Deputy (VHJD) positions. VHJD's work a variety of positions in
the Court Complex, the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and the Jail.
These positions include various transports to the Oregon State
Hospital and other medical facilities. Court Security VHJD's duties
consist primarily of escorting Adults in Custody (AIC) to and from
court appearances and provide law enforcement services at the
Courthouse. VHJD's are expected to maintain a routine schedule
without periods of long absence. Hours can be adjusted to
accommodate planned leaves/vacations. Variable Hour positions are
at-will and hours are limited to twenty (20) hours per week
averaged over a three (3) month period. These positions will accrue
sick time and are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision
benefits.Variable Hour Jail Deputy Incentive!Washington County will
provide a $500 per pay period stipend intended to roughly cover
medical insurance premiums. The stipend is contingent on the
employee meeting a minimum number of hours worked per pay
period.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
* VHJD activities involve prolonged standing, sitting, and/or
sudden rapid response to active incidents occurring in and around
the court complex. * Shuttle, transport and escort AIC's to and
from court, medical and other appointments in and out of the
jail
* Facilitate court appearances for AIC both in person and virtually
via computer video interface.
* Facilitate and conduct prisoner transports to and from adult or
juvenile detention facilities, and the Oregon State Hospital.
* Work closely with a multitude of professionals through the
various partners of the justice system.
* Write both criminal and disciplinary reports.
* Make arrests, serve warrants, testify in court, investigate
crimes in the courthouse, and develop probable cause incident to
arrest.
* Assist in the jail during peak activity periods or when court
needs are reduced.
* Participate in on-going division level training in line with
certified FTEs (Patrol and Corrections)
* Participate in Court Security related training as outlined in
CALEA standards for semi-annual Court Security Specific
training.
* Perform searches of the building and on AIC's, including pat,
frisk and strip searches.
* Perform welfare rounds where AIC are present.
* Assist in processing new arrestee/remands including entering
information in the jail management system, completing fingerprints
and booking photos.
* VHJD may participate in Out of State Extraditions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Background Investigation: Must be able to pass a thorough
background investigation, and meet the standards set by the State
of Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training
(DPSST).
Department of Motor Vehicle Records (DMV) Requirement:Driving a
motorized vehicle is an essential function of this position.

be invited to complete the Pre-Offer Suitability Test, which
evaluates an applicant's characteristics and match for the
certified law enforcement profession and WCSO. STEP 4: Background
Investigation - Full background investigation conducted by the
Sheriff's Office.
STEP 5: Interview - Applicants will complete an interview with
Court Security Sergeants before being considered for an Eligible
List. Interview includes tour/brief job shadow. STEP 6: Command
